Belinda Kendall-Smith
- Time at ASO 30 years
- Instrument Bass
- Position Double Bass - Tutti
It has been Belinda’s great privilege to have held a full-time Double Bass position in the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra since 1994.
Prior to moving to Adelaide, Belinda was awarded both a B.Mus (1st Class Honours) and a Ph.D in Music from the University of Queensland. For the duration of her Ph.D, she was the recipient of a Commonwealth, and then an Australian Post-Graduate Research Award.
Whilst living in Brisbane, Belinda freelanced with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and was Acting Principal Double Bass in the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra. She was a foundation member and Principal Double Bass of the Camerata of St. John’s (later to become Camerata) and in 1993, she was invited to perform with Perihelion on a CD of Chamber Music by Andrew Schultz.
One of Belinda’s most exciting recent adventures was a job exchange to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where she was the Associate Principal Double Bass in the Symphony Nova Scotia for their 2010-11 season. This life-changing experience was made possible with the generous support of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Nova Scotia and the Friends of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
Belinda is a proud resident of Adelaide where she lives with her husband and their four teenagers.
Belinda is supported "In memory of Dr Nandor Ballai and Dr Georgette Straznicky" via our Musical Chairs program.
