St Peter’s Cathedral Choir
- Instrument Choir
St Peter’s Cathedral Choir has been singing services in the Cathedral for over 130 years. It is a ‘working’ choir – its primary function being to sing the regular worship at services in the Cathedral every Sunday and on other occasions. Unique in Adelaide, the treble line consists of boys and girls drawn from schools across Adelaide.
A wide range of sacred choral repertoire is sung, spanning some five hundred years of music-making, and the cathedral choir has been active in the commissioning of new music from Australian and South Australian composers. The choir has been involved in making CDs, televised services and concerts. Every four or five years the choir tours to the UK, where they sing services throughout Cathedrals in the UK, and they have also toured to Rome and Paris.
A high standard of sight-singing is taught and all choristers enjoy a well-rounded musical education in the context of the sacred space of St Peter’s Cathedral. The Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) “Voice for Life” teaching programme is used.
