An exploration of the spiritual and sublime
Bask in the ethereal glow of the iconic St Peter’s Cathedral. Enter a world of breathtaking beauty and inspiration with music that celebrates our shared humanity and the vibrancy of our world.
This is a study in timeless grandeur. Bach’s Great Fantasia and Fugue makes the organ sing at one moment, roar at the next – and was a direct source of inspiration for Poulenc in his concerto, in which the organ casts a mighty spell over the strings and timpani. The concerto is a big, bold companion to the luxuriant, exalted string textures of Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia and the resounding brass of Gabrieli’s Canzonas.
